I want to send a "Walker" a Care Package.... Where do I send it and what do I put into it? Here is the skinny: Letters can be mailed first-class, regular mail. Boxes MUST be mailed via Priority Mail through the US Post Office. DO NOT use delivery confirmation. All of the boxes are routed through the base of operations out of Ohio. If they are sent "Priority" then they can be forwarded at no cost by forwarding them to the next drop. Please keep the boxes under 7 lbs...the feet can't take it What should you put in a box? Stuff we can eat. Refer to list below. Be creative! Care packages don't have to be huge. When the clerk at the post office asks you if there is "anything perishable or hazardous" in the box, tell them NO. They don't need to know that there are goodies in the box. What should you NOT put in a box? Don't send cute little stuffed animals, or toys, or books. We will have to turn around and mail those home, cause We can't take them on the trail with us. Daren (Walker #1) has been eliminating debt and working multiple jobs in order to help fund his expedition. However he is actively pursuing corporate and private sponsorship opportunities. We think it is great that you are interested in walking for such a great cause as Blood:Water Mission. Prior to his departure on March 8th 2008 Daren has trained and executed the Chicago Marathon. 6 months prior to the departure Daren has been training with fitness specialist Shaun Craft from www.completefitnessweb.com. Daren also trains seven days a week on the trail. lol What is Daren's Pack Weight? Daren's base weight is 23 lbs (Base Weight is void of water and food) Is he doing this alone? Yes Daren is currently walking alone but loves when people travel with him and walk alongside him for Blood:Water Mission. A literal walk by a varity of people around the world in order to be a voice for the voiceless. The Earth Expedition acts as a platform in order to raise awareness, funds, and people to action when it comes to the Humanitarian Organization Blood:Water Mission (www.blodwatermission.com). This expedition has evolved into something bigger than the original vision years ago. People run or walk the streets in great numbers for cancer, MS, and diabetes, etc. Let's walk the world for water, and tell everyone that there is absolutely no need for 6,000 people in Africa to die each day because they lack clean water. It's just not acceptable. On a personal level: Legacy: I dont have any children, but there will be a day when I am gone and my children will say "My father gave back to this world instead of just taking from it, he saved lives, and he was a voice for the voiceless" I cant think of a better legacy One of my biggest fears is to look back on my life and wished I would have lived it differently. Therefore I refuse to live a life of mediocrity. I meet so many people who have lost sight of their dreams and ambitions and settle for something else. I feel like I have been given this gift of life and I want to live it to the fullest. I also want to raise awareness and move people to action when it comes to the Water Crisis and Aids Pandemic that is hitting Africa by advocating for www.bloodwatermission.com I want to inspire people to follow dreams and help figure out why they are on this earth. I feel If you miss out on that then they will miss the reason they were created. I am fiercly wild at heart. I love adventure, change, new people, cultures, mental challenges, languages physical challenges, spiritual challenges. I am sure that I will discover a lot more of the why as I walk. But for now… I stick with just "Life to the fullest” "Dream no small dreams. They have no power to stir the souls of men." What about protection? Well lets just say....... Curiosity killed the cat. What about the languages? Daren (Walker #1) is just travelling through The USA and parts of Canada so the languages are not a problem. The hope is to find other walkers who speak the language of the countries they are walking through. Where do the "Walkers" stay? Camping will be their primary arrangement. Each Country is different but for the most part, Europe only requires a valid passport. However In some countries we will have to apply for Visa’s multiple times. I live close to The Earth Expedition's Route….can I offer my place to stay? Heck yeah! If you live close to the route and are willing to house one of the "Walkers" for a night then write Sue@theearthexpedition.com over on the contacts page with all of your information and she will make it happen. So where did the idea come from? The idea was derived from a brainstorm one night back in 2006. Daren wanted to know if it was possible for someone to walk around the world. He found out that only a few people have ever tried it and suceeded. Mix it with a passion to fight for social justice and a way to worship and you got The Earth Expedition. Are you Crazy?
