Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use. ~Earl Nightingale
A.T. the moment:
Here I sit at the Doyle Hotel in Duncannon, PA. A very old hotel with rooms right out of a old western. Downstairs there is a bar (where I sit) and I feel like there should be swinging wooden doors and some cowboys playing poker over at the corner table. I feel like I have walked into a different time. I am feeling pretty good considering that over the past couple of weeks both of my parents and grandmother have visited and spoiled me to death. But starting tomorrow I will be back on trail for 10 days until the 19th where I will meet a friend that will be walking with me. It will be a breath of fresh air to walk with someone you know.
On the Horizon:
Since the beginning of this whole Earth Expedition began there has been a deep desire within my soul to make a difference in the lives of people... I didn't have to know them but I wanted to live outside of myself and use my life as a catalyst of the change I wanted to see in the world. This is the reason that The Earth Expedition and its team exist. The original plan has been to use The Expedition as a platform in order to speak to people about the international water crisis and Aids pandemic specifically in sub-Saharan Africa. We use http://www.bloodwatermission.com/ as a partner in putting the funds to work in Africa. The plan is coming together just as we have dreamed, the platform is growing, awareness is being built, and funds are being raised. To date we have helped raised just around $4,000 for Blood:Water Mission. To help in raising funds for Blood:Water Mission we are in the process of creating a "Pledge for Mile" campaign. All of the details have been slowly coming together and The Earth Expedition Team is all really excited for this to come to fruition. Lord willing it won't be too long before you will see this on the website.
Also on the Horizon
The Earth Expedition is in the process of becoming a non-profit organization! We are really excited about this shift. This way there will an infrastructure in which The Earth Expedition will operate filled with bylaws and board members. Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.
4 State Lines:
Since I last wrote I have walked 4 state lines! (Virginia, West VA, Maryland, and PA) I also passes the official halfway marker of the A.T.! I am moving pretty fast now... My legs are able to take me up to about 27 miles a day on the trail for a few days before I need to slow down. My health is as good as is can be for what I am doing. I do foresee nutrition being an issue in the future and was interested to see if there were any readers out there who may be nutritionist or know of someone who is one and would be interested in lending their expertise to The Earth Expedition. If you are or know of someone please contact me at Daren@theearthexpedition.com
Trail Days:
Earlier this month I was able to go to "Trail Days". Trail days is a Appalachian Trail festival that celebrates the Appalachian Trail and the 10,000 hikers that have completed the Trail since its creation back in 1937. The festivities included documentaries, Speakers, Vendors, Entertainment, Camaraderie, and for many people a little inebriation. Here is a picture that my friend "Blackberry" woke up to outside his tent the last morning of "Trail Days" . You never know what you are going to come across out here. This guy I was told passed out the night before. Can you say hangover?
Special Thanks:
I wanted to thank the Heartland PM Team for providing The Earth Expedition with an I-pod. You guys are great. Thanks for all you do!
I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday. "Life to the Fullest"
